We arrived!

On Wednesday November 13th, we arrived in Niamey, the capital of Niger. The children had slept on the journey, so did their parents. We couldn't have asked for a better trip. All our baggage arrived too, even the childrens car seats (which weren't very well labelled). We thank the Lord for His travelling mercies.
We were seen off at Grand Rapids airport the day before by family and friends from Christ Church, our home church. When we arrived in Niamey friends were waiting for us (David & Laura Ceton and their children Andrea & Joel). Samuel was overcome with emotion to see his friend and former language school playmate, Andrea.
As a rude introduction to Africa, a suicidal bug decided to fly into Samuel's momentarily open mouth, moments after we stepped off the plane. UUUGGGHHHH!

Though we have now been in Niger for 2 weeks, there has been so much we could describe of what we've seen and experienced. Camels wondering down the main streets, frequent power cuts, mixing up French and Hausa in the same sentence, to name a few. Unfortunately our access to e-mail and the internet is very problematic right now. Sometimes I think the heat and dust in the atmosphere slows the connections down a lot. So we haven't been as able to keep up with this blog as we would have liked. Please excuse us. Also we can't yet get 'photos on to the blog yet. Please be patient with us.

Samuel & Rachel are adjusting pretty well and we just celebrated Rachel's first birthday.

Next time we can get to write, we will tell you more about the Tamajeq, or Tuareg, church we visited.
