This year we enjoyed a bit of the Galmi Hospital Christmas party. There was preaching, games, prizes, music, and of course lots of laughter and food. The hospital employees take a day that is a national holiday, and benefit by having their Christmas party. There is much preparation the day or two before. You'll see the before, and after shots of dinner. The cow and a sheep or two were tied up at next door's clothesline the day before, and we heard lots of "lowing" and "bleating" going on at very close range. The meat is slaughtered and cooked on the hospital grounds--imagine that passing OSHA (occupational safety and health assoc.) standards in the US!--NOT! We had to warn the kids not to get too close to the cow, or it's horns! Alan was away in TchinTabaraden for the party, so I went with the children. Samuel got bored, and wanted to leave early, Rachel was engaged in the activity and wanted to stay. Natalie tipped the scales by needing to eat. As we were leaving, several of Alan's co-workers were trying to send food with us, and drinks. Only having so many hands I begged off the food, and went for the drinks. The whole way home, Rachel whined and complained that she didn't get to "ci abinci" (eat food in Hausa). After seeing to Natalie's needs, I dutifully took Rachel back to get her bowl of rice, pasta, and sauce. She was much happier after that. We did have two very hungry compound dogs follow us home as well!
