On our way back from the dunes, our path was blocked by a deeply buried car. We stopped to assist with our "sand tracks" and after 4-6 pushes with the sand tracks in place, the grateful driver was free to return from the direction that he'd come. It would have taken all day or longer for him to get out without the sand tracks. Note to self and others: When traveling on sandy roads in Niger--4 wheel drive is a must. (Yes this is actually a road!)
